Optiven FC were crowned champions at the Kenyatta Grounds after defeating Shammah FC 2-0. The tightly contested match saw, Optiven FC, top of the Zone A league and Shammah FC, champions of Zone B come together to fight for the Langata Sub County league crown. At the end of the day the Zone A leaders came on top after 2 beautiful goals from John Nyongesa and Joshua Kanina, progressing the team to prove Nairobi’s best.

The tie that started at 3:00 PM was evenly matched with the 2 teams coming close but no shots on goal. This was until Optiven FC earned a corner through a deflection and the neat corner kick taken by Stewart Odhiambo found Joshua Kanina’s head to take Optiven FC 1-0 at halftime. The Optiven support team had come out to cheer the team and the noise created a dominant atmosphere even as the team went on the break.

Shammah FC had won 10 out of their 11 matches and in the second half, they showed why they were in the final. They hit the post with a great shot before scoring a goal after the referee had blown the whistle for a foul just outside the box. The Optiven FC goalkeeper was called into action twice keeping the tie in favour of Optiven FC, before a long ball found John Nyongesa to score the second and crown Optiven as the Champions of Langata sub county.

Today is a historic day for Optiven FC. Winning the Langata sub county league shows the dedication, hard work and belief that this brand embodies and as we celebrate this milestone, we remain focused on the next challenge to be the champions of Nairobi. Congratulations to everyone.” Dr. Wachiuri, Optiven CEO commented after the match.

Optiven FC were awarded the Champions Trophy by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and the Optiven FC goalkeeper Samuel Nyandiga won the Golden Glove, cementing his domination. Next up for Optiven FC is Highway Secondary FC from Starehe on Friday 25th at 11:00 AM in a semifinal to see the overall Nairobi Champion.

Optiven continues to set new benchmarks even as it gears up to celebrate 2 years in October 2025.
