As cities across Africa continued to experience rapid urbanisation, the need for smarter, more sustainable and inclusive urban development took centre stage during the 2nd Edition of the Smart Cities Forum, held on 29–30 October 2026 at Iconic Plaza Hotel, Nairobi.
Held under the theme “Regenerating Our Cities: From Urban Challenges to Smart, Sustainable and Inclusive Futures,” the forum brought together government leaders, urban planners, real estate developers, innovators, academia and development partners to deliberate on transformative solutions for Africa’s evolving urban landscape.
On the sidelines of the conference, Optiven Limited highlighted the critical role of the real estate sector in shaping sustainable cities and communities. Optiven Limited is exploring key areas influencing the future of urban living, including smart buildings, electric mobility (e-mobility), modern transport systems, utilities, and technological innovation.
Discourse on international days including this one on smart cities provides an important platform for stakeholders such as Optiven and others in real estate, to exchange ideas, share best practices and explore partnerships aimed at addressing urban challenges while unlocking opportunities for sustainable growth.
For Optiven, the conversations reinforced the importance of responsible real estate development that goes beyond providing land and property to creating communities where people could live, work, invest and thrive. Through its commitment to sustainability, innovation and community development, Optiven continued to recognise the importance of integrating environmental, social and economic considerations into the future of urban development.
