The Optiven Football Club joined the rest of the world in celebrating the 2026 World Football Day. The team which has been tops in the Lang’ata League continues on a great stride in terms of goals scored and players game. The observation of the World Football Day which is the second global observation follows a resolution of the United Nations on 19th May 2024 to declare 25th May 2026 the World Day for Football.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Be Active” a theme that resonates with the current need for fit and healthy populations especially among the youth. And as Optiven celebrates the great benefits arising from the Optiven Football Club, the Football Kenya Federation joined the global celebration of World Football Week 2026.
This was through a nationwide grassroots activation campaign aimed at promoting physical activity, inclusion, and healthy living among children and youth. The initiative, themed “Be Active – Play for Health, Play for Joy,” ran from May 21 to May 25, 2026, in partnership with the FIFA, the World Health Organization and Kenya’s Ministry of Education.

What Happened During The Normal During The Football Week?
World Football Week is a FIFA-led initiative delivered alongside the WHO under the global “Be Active” campaign. It encourages children and youth to engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. The Football Kenya Feberation FKF’s 2026 activation will focussed on school-based football activities, community engagement and inclusive football sessions designed to use the game as a tool for health, education and social development.
As part of the activation week, they conducted football clinics in selected primary schools across different regions of the country. The sessions were led by FKF technical staff and coaches, with support from Harambee Stars players. Activities planned included football drills, fun games, interactive sessions with pupils, and educational talks centred on discipline, health and education.
Focus on Inclusion
The campaign concluded with a special needs inclusion activity involving children from a selected institution. The session will feature adapted football activities, interaction with FKF coaches and players, and donation of football equipment and materials. The activation is part of broader efforts to strengthen grassroots football development while promoting healthier lifestyles among children.
Patron of the Optiven FC club Martin Waweru while acknowledging the important role that football plays says, “the sport is also a key contributor to stress management, team building and general physical fitness which is one of the reasons Optiven Limited came up with the football club.
As Patron I look forward to a great season ahead following our promotion to the next level by the FKF during the global football week. We are indeed indebted to our players, coaches, sponsors and fans as we look forward to not only play but also take advantage of the power of football to change lives.”
Supported closely by the Optiven Foundation, the team integrates vulnerable youths and foundation beneficiaries into its sports development pipeline. Known as the Green Batallion, the team is encouraged by it’s motto – ONE TEAM ONE GOAL.
Congratulations to the Optiven FC team.
