Amidst the challenges that life presents, there in lies a collection of infinite possibilities. This was the clarion call by the Optiven Chief Executive, Mr. George Wachiuri when he spoke to students of Kenyatta University on 1st March 2019. The event which was held at the university ampitheatre provided a great opportunity for interaction, empowerment and mentorship for the students in attendance.

Wachiuri, who was the main speaker of the event organized by the students of physical and applied sciences aat the university further called on the students to understand there is need for them to create what they want or not get it altogether. The students has an opportunity to further engage the team from Optiven Limited with real life questions on their aspirations, challenges, fears and anticipation as regards the working world.

Wachiuri advised them to remain focused on their studies, while encouraging them that there are many opportunities for those who think differently. He further shared his experience as a student from a challenged background and how he managed to make it under the circumstances. Boniface Mutinda, the Digital Manager at Optiven Limited, also encouraged the students to be innovative in their approach on different matters.

While answering questions from the students, Cathrine Khasoa, the Public Relations advised the gathering that it is through innovation and ethical practices embraced by Optiven Limited that have enabled the company to grow and win. Wachiuri added that while the real estate industry continues to grow, the future belongs to those who will learn and apply innovation in what they do.

The team from Optiven shared a number of insights with the students including nuggets for their application in the areas of:-

  1. Building networks while in campus that may be handy in the future
  2. Having a clear vision from the onset that will guide future plans
  3. Prepare appropriate curriculum vitaes that are timely, relevant and true
  4. Grooming and it’s benefits in brand placement
  5. Being positive and useful by avoiding being idle
  6. Understanding and application of emotional intelligence in the work place
  7. Standing out through innovation, initiative, and intuition

The session dubbed Mega Business and Entrepreneurship Forum provided an opportunity for the students in attendance to have insights on how life is after campus. During the session Wachiuri and his team from Optiven Limited shared their experiences in the work place while at the same time offering guidance to the students. Mr. Wachiuri, who is also the chairman of the Optiven Foundation donated a number of his books including his biography titled ’Soaring Like an Eagle’ to the Kenyatta University Main Library. The event was also attended by members of the administrative staff at the university.
