In line with the Kenyan government’s initiative to plant 15 billion trees by the year 2032 and curb the climate change that’s led to floods for the past 2 months, President William Ruto declared May 10th a public holiday to honor flood victims and participate in a National Tree Planting exercise.

The government recognizes the immense potential of trees in reducing the risk of floods and this ambitious project is part of a broader strategy to increase the country’s forest cover and address the urgent challenges posed by climate change.

In a show of solidarity and commitment to the environment, we participated by planting thousands of trees in our projects, Ocean View Ridge, Vipingo and Ushindi Gardens, Nakuru mitigating environmental impact and creating a conducive habitat for our investors.

Led by Joe Alando, General Manager Global office who spoke during the initiative and emphasized the company’s dedication to environmental stewardship. “At Optiven, we believe in the power of sustainable development. By participating in National Tree Growing Day, we reaffirm our commitment to preserving nature and creating greener, healthier communities. Our projects in Mombasa and Nakuru will serve as shining examples of responsible development, where sustainability and progress go hand in hand,” he commented.

Go green na Optiven is an Environmental Protection strategy to increase forest cover with season 2 launching in March 2024 collaborating with over 20 learning institutions to plant over 3,000 trees. The Go Green initiative is not just a noble cause but an imperative necessity as we educate young individuals and call to other organizations to take leading in environmental responsibility.

At the end of the program the most creative and innovative schools will be recognized and awarded as aligning our objective with the National Landscape and Ecosystem Restoration Strategy. At the end of the day we played our role in ensuring Sustainable Development Goal 11 2030 remains a possibility because Go Green is making it happen.
